Services: Commercial & Residential

Lawn Mowing

SLC's lawn mowing service includes weekly mowing and trimming. Edging on the sidewalks and driveways is done every other week. SLC maintains the proper equipment to handle any size of both residential and commercial lawns.

Spring & Fall Clean Ups

Spring and fall are the recommended times of the year to have a general cleanup of your property. These cleanups help prepare the lawn and landscaping beds for spring and winter. Often times, customers will combine a cleanup with mulching and/or pruning.

All debris accumulated from the winter will be removed from the lawn area and flowerbeds unless otherwise instructed. Clean up can be detailed to customer’s need and wants, including preparing perennials and flowering shrubs for the spring season.

All debris accumulated from the fall will be removed from the lawn area and flowerbeds unless otherwise instructed. Clean up can be detailed to customer’s need and wants, including removing annuals, preparing perennials and flowering shrubs for winter season.

Small Tree & Shrub: Trimming and Pruning

We offer shrub and small tree trimming as well as small tree pruning. Shrub trimming is performed from June to November. We trim most hedges and shrubs during the summer, although some plants are best pruned in the winter.

By trimming them back they'll grow more slowly. Remember, the slower a shrub grows, the thicker and better it will look! A combination of pruning and trimming will be performed at customer’s request.

This process varies in accordance with the customers desire or the look the customer wants maintained. Trimming will be done to maintain a neat plant shape. Pruning will be done for the regeneration of new plant development.

New Sod Installation

Repair or replacement of larger turf areas. Due to the severe winter season, this may be necessary to repair/enhance lawn to prevent weeds and crabgrass from filling in bare spots and weak areas.

Landscape Consultation & Design

We can draw a design, suggest plantings (single or multiple), show ways to incorporate landscape lighting for cosmetic and safety purposes, and/or put together a weekly, monthly, or seasonal maintenance package. A fee may apply for consultation, and/or landscape design services.

Mulching

We suggest at least a 2” layer. Besides being aesthetically pleasing to the eye, mulch has many benefits, including the reduction of weeds and maintaining moisture for plants and shrubs.

Monthly Bed Maintenance

Includes weeding and edging established beds. After weeding we suggest applying a granular pre-emergent herbicide to help limit weed germination.

Annual Flower Plantings

Add vibrant color to your landscape year around by installing sunny and shade annuals to beds and flowerpots.

Snow & Ice Management - Commercial Only

For those that use our services during the Spring, Summer or Fall season, we exclusively offer them our snowplowing and de-icing services.

Snow Removal: Our professional snowclearing equipment will see to it that your walkways and parking lots are clear for the blistery winters here in Michigan.

Salting: We offer a full range of ice melting products including environmentally safe products that are not only safe for your lawn and shrubs, but also harmless on concrete or asphalt surfaces.

Watering Practices

Amount of Irrigation: Generally, cool-season lawn turf requires 0.5 to 1.5 inches of water per week. The amount of water you apply will vary depending on the weather conditions and rainfall events. Periods of high temperatures, coupled with full sun and high wind will require more water.

Timing of Irrigation: Irrigating between midnight and 6 am can be very effective as it reduces the time the turf remains moist during the over-night period and may also be a time of little or no wind. In contrast, irrigating during the early evening hours is one of the worst times to irrigate as this results in the turf remaining moist for an extended period of time and may increase disease activity.
